Toure ruled out of City – Madrid UCL clash

Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure would miss Tuesday night’s Champions League semi finals clash against spanish giants Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium.

The 32-year-old Ivorian International internatinal picked up a thigh injury during Manchester City’s 4 – 0 victory against Stoke City over the weekend. He was however unable to be substituted because City had used up all their three substitutions.

Toure has been influential in City’s first ever appearance in the last four stage of the continental competition, having featured in all but one of the club’s games in the competition.

Man City can however count on the return of its skipper, Vincent Kompany who is 100% fit for the fixture.

Ahead of the tie, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has also revealed that his Ronaldo and Benzema are fit for the game even though Ronaldo missed their last La Liga game whiles Benzema also limped off during the game.

Zidane said: “They are absolutely fine at the moment, they have recovered really well. I think they will be fine, 100%. But we will test them. The idea is they’ll play.”

City Manager, Chilean Manuel Pellegrini meets his former side but has no hard feelings; “I don’t look back. I always prefer to think about what is happening now.
“I’m happy if we win the title, but I’m not wishing anything for my future,” he said.

Real Madrid are appearing in the UCL semis for the 27th time, they have reached the semi-finals in each of the past six seasons.

The last and only time the two sides met was in the 2012-13 Champions League group stages. Real won 3-2 at the Bernabeu before a one-all draw at Etihad Stadium.

Real Madrid will play the first-leg of a Champions League knockout tie away from home for the sixth time in a row.

Manchester City are playing their first ever semi-finals of the Champions League in their history.

The only time Manchester City have kept a clean sheet in their 10 Champions League games against Spanish opposition was in November 2011 – a 3-0 away win against Villarreal.
